HC Deb 18 April 1995 vol 258 c48W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what percentage and how many students are now admitted to higher education courses on the basis of national vocational qualifications rather then A-levels. [19098]

Mr. Boswell

Information published in the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service annual report 1993–94 shows that 159,300 applicants were accepted to first degree and HND courses in autumn 1994 with A-level qualifications—63 per cent. of home acceptances. The remainder gained entry with a range of other qualifications, including the new general national vocational qualifications, NVQs, and predecessor vocational qualifications.
