To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many language graduates have taken up bursaries for postgraduate vocational interpreter and translator training courses over the last three years. [18902]

The number of language graduates who have taken up bursaries through the Departments postgraduate awards scheme for postgraduate vocational interpreter and translator training courses over the last three academic years is 136.

My right hon. Friend has reviewed the provision of bursaries for postgraduate studies in interpreting and translating studies and has now agreed to provide 20 bursaries for language graduates wishing to take postgraduate vocational interpreter and translator training courses in the next academic year.
