§ Sir David SteelTo ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage how he plans to compensate those charitable organisations which have lost funding previously raised through lottery or scratch card schemes as a result of competition from the national lottery. [18871]
§ Mr. DorrellCharitable, voluntary and benevolent organisations will be able to apply for funds from the National Lottery Charities Board, which will receive 20 per cent. of the national lottery's contribution to good causes. This could amount to more than £300 million a year when the lottery reaches it peak. In addition, many of the applicants for funds from the other lottery distribution bodies are themselves charities. I therefore expect that a high proportion of the money distributed from the lottery will go to the benefit of the charitable sector.
