HL Deb 01 November 1994 vol 558 c59WA
Lord Lester of Herne Hill

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to their answer of 19 October 1994 (H.L. Deb., 19th October, col. WA7), whether they will explain those aspects of United Kingdom law, custom and practice of whose compatibility with the International Labour Organisation Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention 1958 they are not yet confident.

Lord Inglewood

Small differences between United Kingdom law and the terms of the convention remain. The main difficulty concerns the nationality rules for the Armed Forces and Civil Service, which are specifically excluded from the scope of the Race Relations Act 1976. The Government have maintained those rules to ensure the close identification of the personnel concerned with the United Kingdom.
