Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) by what mechanisms householders in Wales whose homes and gardens are severely damaged by new boreholes sunk by water utilities may obtain compensation; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will call for a report on damage caused to private houses and gardens in the area of Fron, Montgomery as a result of borehole operations by Severn-Trent Water Ltd.; and if he will make a statement;

(3) what assessment he has made of the methods whereby assessment is made of the risk of damage to property in Wales from new water boreholes; and if he will make a statement;

(4) if he will institute a public inquiry into the conduct of and damage caused by water borehole operations near Fron, Montgomery; and if he will make a statement;

(5) what proposals he has to make water utilities liable for damage caused to property in Wales as a result of the sinking of water boreholes; and if he will make a statement.
