§ Mr. Nicholas BrownTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the total budget awarded to the EC's guidance section of the European agricultural guidance and guarantee fund in each year since its establishment; and what proportion of this was granted to (i) the northern region and (ii) the United Kingdom as a whole.
§ Mr. JackTotal EC payments from the guidance section of the European agricultural guidance and guarantee fund, and the proportion of this received by the United Kingdom since its accession to the EC, is set out in the table. The reduction in the proportion of total payments received by the United Kingdom since 1981 is due in part to the accession to the EC of Greece in 1981, and of Spain and Portugal in 1986. I regret that figures for the proportion of these payments received by the northern region could be provided only at disproportionate cost, as information on the various schemes subject to funding by guidance section is not kept on regional basis.
