HC Deb 27 January 1994 vol 236 cc384-5W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how she ensures that minimum values apply to all equines leaving the United Kingdom; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Soames

The Animal Health Act 1981, and orders made under the Act, require a minimum valuation to be provided for specified categories of equines before a welfare export licence is issued. There are exemptions for thoroughbred horses certified by the Jockey Club and other horses intended for breeding, riding, exhibition, jumping and polo are also exempted.
