To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many accidents to children were recorded in each year since 1987.

Statistics on home and leisure accidents to children are published by the Department in the home accident surveillance system annual reports for the years 1987 to 1991—the latest figures available—copies of which are held in the Library of the House. It should be noted that the national figures are extrapolated from a sample of accident cases treated in hospitals.

Statistics on road traffic and work accidents are a matter for my right hon. Friends, the Secretaries of State for Transport and for Employment.

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what were the recorded numbers of accidents that children had(a) in the home, (b) on the roads, (c) in school and (d) in playgrounds, in each year since 1987.
