HC Deb 03 February 1994 vol 236 c812W
Mr. Cash

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to ensure compliance with minimum legislative requirements within the framework of his deregulation policy at car boot sales.

Mr. McLoughlin

There is no legislation relating specifically to car boot sales. In so far as car boot sales raise questions of planning law, this is a matter for local authorities and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. In so far as they raise questions of compliance with such legislation as the Trade Descriptions Act or consumer safety regulations, they are a matter for local authority trading standards departments.
