To ask the Secretary of State for Education which constituencies he has visited in his capacity as Secretary of State in the last six months; and for what purpose those visits were made.

The details requested are as follows:

(2) what information he has on the running costs of the Higher Education Quality Council.

Mr. Boswell

The Higher Education Quality Council is a body wholly independent of Government, set up by the universities and colleges and funded by them. I understand that the council's annual expenditure is currently of the order of £3.2 million, excluding some self-financing activities. Within this, expenditure on quality audit is of the order of £1.5 million.
