HL Deb 26 May 1993 vol 546 c24WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether nurses at Grantham and Kesteven hospital have been forced to sign "anti-whistle blowing clauses"; whether such clauses are legally valid; and whether they will give guarantees of protection of employment to those nurses so that they can talk freely to the public inquiry that has been set up in the light of the conviction of Beverley Allitt.

Baroness Cumberlege

Nurses at Grantham and Kesteven General Hospital have not been asked to sign any such clause. A letter was sent to all staff by the hospital's general manager on 29th October 1992 about two aspects of the Beverley Allitt trial: the continuing police investigation and enquiries from the media. This letter gave guidance to staff about what they could and could not say to the media and referred exclusively to the exceptional circumstances existing before and at the time of the trial.
