HL Deb 26 May 1993 vol 546 cc24-5WA
The Earl of Selborne

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they propose to require slug bait used in agriculture to contain animal repellents, thereby reducing the risk to dogs.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

Metaldehyde and methiocarb, the active ingredients of the majority of slug control products, are currently being examined as part of the UK's routine pesticide review programme. The reviews will take into account reported poisoning incidents involving dogs and other animals. We shall consider the options for the future in the light of that examination.
