HL Deb 06 May 1993 vol 545 c47WA
Lord Marlesford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give the Director of Traffic in London the same responsibility for the 1,000-mile strategic cycle route network as he already has for the Red Routes, and if not why not.

The Earl of Caithness

No. The 1,000-mile cycle network was developed by cycling organisations on routes which avoid main roads where possible. It would not be appropriate to designate these as priority routes under the Road Traffic Act 1991.
