To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the local authorities in Scotland which operate concessionary fare schemes for travel on the railways, indicating which of them operate schemes for(a) the elderly, (b) the disabled, (c) the blind and (d) young people.

[holding answer 24 March 1993]: The following Scottish local authorities operate concessionary fare schemes for travel on the railways for the following categories of person:

Region Category of person
Central elderly, disabled and blind people
Fife elderly, disabled, blind and students1
Grampian elderly, disabled and blind people
Highland elderly, disabled and blind people
Lothian elderly, disabled and blind people
Strathclyde elderly, disabled and blind people
Tayside elderly, disabled and blind people
1Students aged 16–18.

British Rail operates a commercial concessionary fares scheme for juveniles.
