To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimates have been made of the likely proceeds from the first, second and third wave of trust port sales.

Mr. Norris

The total of the sale prices for the five ports privatised last year under the Ports Act 1991 is £380 million. No estimate has been made of the likely proceeds from the sales of any further trust ports.

To ask the Secretary of Stale for Transport when the announcement will be made for the next wave of trust ports for privatisation.

Mr. Norris

The powers which the Secretary of State has under the Ports Act 1991 to require trust ports with a turnover above a specified threshold to privatise themselves will become available on 25 July 1993 The Secretary of State has not yet decided which ports he shall consult, under the terms of the Act, concerning their privatisation.
