§ Mr. Peter BottomleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will estimate the average number of deaths and serious injuries during each week of Greenwich mean time that would be avoided by introducing common European time.
§ Mr. Kenneth CarlisleEstimates for 1991 are that. some 140 deaths, 520 seriously injured and 2,000 casualties in total could be saved by adopting double British summer time. It is estimated that approximately three quarters of these savings accrue in the 22 weeks during winter when Greenwich mean time is currently in force.
