HC Deb 18 January 1993 vol 217 c109W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what level of grant aid is available for capital works projects for caravan site provision for the traditional travelling community and for on-site units.

Mr. Baldry

For the current financial year £12.5 million has been allocated in England for capital works by local authorities to provide new gipsy caravan sites and to improve existing sites.

Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentage of the traditional travelling people in England will be provided for by(a) existing caravan sites, (b) those planned and (c) those under construction for those people.

Mr. Baldry

The Department does not hold information in the form requested. In January 1992, English local authorities counted a total of 12,777 gipsy caravans: 43 per cent. of these were parked on authorised council sites; a further 23 per cent. were on authorised private caravan sites; the remainder were on unauthorised sites.
