HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c561W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on progress made in implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 789 of 24 November on Cyprus; and what is Her Majesty's Government's policy on Cyprus.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Inter-communal negotiations chaired by the United Nations Secretary-General will resume in New York in March. Security Council Resolution 789 sets out a series of confidence-building measures. These have been accepted in principle by President Vassiliou of Cyprus, but not yet by the Turkish side.

We continue to play a full part in supporting the efforts of the United Nations to achieve a negotiated settlement to this tragic dispute.
