HL Deb 22 February 1993 vol 543 c1WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have discussed with the new United States Administration its proposals to examine the possibility that economic intelligence gathered by US intelligence agencies should be shared with private companies or individuals; if so, to what effect; and what are the implications for the long-standing Anglo-American collaboration in intelligence, and specifically for GCHQ.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The Government are aware of what was said on this subject at the Senate confirmation hearings for the new Director of the CIA. But, as I made clear to the noble Lord on 4th February (Written Answers, columnWA 19), our intelligence relationships depend on confidentiality and we do not comment on them in any detail.
