HL Deb 22 February 1993 vol 543 cc1-2WA
Lord Ironside

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which Ministry of Defence establishments, depots, bases, Royal Dockyards, proof and experimental sites and ranges and other properties and agencies have spur line connections with the British Rail network; and whether they are satisfied that adequate provision will be made for those links to be maintained, if required, after railway privatisation measures are introduced.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Minstry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

The following Ministry of Defence locations are rail served: Her Majesty's Naval Bases Devonport and Rosyth; Royal Naval Ammunition Depots Beith, Crombie, Dean Hill, Ernesettle, Gosport and Trecwn; NATO Ammunition Depot Glen Douglas; NATO Mooring and Salvage Depot Fairlie; Central Ammunition Depots Long Town, Kineton and Eastriggs; Marchwood Military Port; Central Vehicle Depot Ludgershall; Central Ordnance Depot Bicester; HQ Engineer Resources Long Marston; RAFs Chilmark and Leuchars; and the Proof and Experimental Establishments Eskmeals and Shoeburyness. We will enter into negotiations with the new track operators as soon as is practicable. It is too early to speculate what the outcome of those negotiations might be.

Lord Ironside

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether British Rail have made any proposals to withdraw any of their existing spur-line connections into Ministry of Defence properties.

Viscount Cranborne

No such proposals have been made.
