HC Deb 16 December 1993 vol 234 c912W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what consideration he has given to the installation of new types of computerised training equipment at Catterick; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hanley

The only training facilities that use computerised training equipment are the brigade and battle group trainer—north—located at HQ Catterick and the unit fire control trainer and small arms trainer which are used for in-barracks training at unit level. HQ 19 Mechanised Brigade, however, may be involved in computer assisted exercises where computers simulate the operational environment and provide event resolution, when the higher formation trainer—HFT—comes into service in 1994. HFT is a computer based trainer to be used for "wargaming" at up to corps level.
