§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton[holding answer 1 December 1993]: Based on reports from local authority fire brigades on fires attended, the numbers of fires and of fatal casualties in dwellings in Strathclyde, in other parts of Scotland and in Scotland as a whole in each of the years 1983-1992 are as set out in the table. An analysis of fatal casualties by age groups is being prepared and I will write to the hon. Member when this information is available.
