HC Deb 02 December 1993 vol 233 c698W
Ms Primarolo

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will estimate the total number of cigarettes smoked by children every year.

Mr. Sackville

Figures taken from the 1992 Office of Population Censuses and Surveys survey of smoking among secondary school children for the mean consumption of cigarettes per pupil, give an estimate of around 690 million cigarettes smoked every year by pupils aged 11 to 15 in England.
