HC Deb 21 April 1993 vol 223 c116W
28. Mr. John Evans

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is his latest estimate of the deficit in trade of manufactured goods for the last 12 months in respect of which figures are available.

Mr. Needham

The United Kingdom had a deficit in trade of manufactured goods of £7.6 billion in 1992.

With the completion of the single market at the end of 1992, routine border requirements and formalities were abolished for trade within the European Community and customs declarations—the source of trade statistics until December 1992—are no longer required. Therefore, at present, it is not possible to provide figures for trade with the European Community for January 1993 onwards.

Detailed statistics on United Kingdom trade in manufactures are regularly published in the "Monthly Review of External Trade Statistics", which is available in the Library of the House.
