HC Deb 21 April 1993 vol 223 c116W
29. Ms Coffey

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement about the factors influencing Japanese inward investment in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Sainsbury

Many factors influence Japanese inward investment into the United Kingdom and worldwide. Britain's advantages include a strong industrial infrastructure, a large and sophisticated domestic market, a skilled and dedicated work force and a communication system geared for the modern trading world. These factors have contributed to Britain having almost 41 per cent. of the stock of Japanese foreign direct investment into Europe, according to Japanese Ministry of Finance figures.
