Number March 1970 22,907 March 1980 21,056 March 1990 19,532 Post Office Counters Ltd. does not group sub-post offices on a territorial basis for management or administrative purposes and the analysis for the years requested could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
However, at 29th March 1992, the total number of sub-post offices, including franchise offices, in the United Kingdom was 19,141 of which 14,505 were located in England, 2,046 in Scotland, 1,937 in Wales and 653 in Northern Ireland.
