§ Sir Russell JohnstonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what decision was reached by the Council of Ministers meeting in Oslo on 4 June concerning the ratification of the treaty of Maastricht by the other 11 members states following the Danish referendum; whether the decision was unanimous; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Garel-JonesAs my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs told the House on 8 June, the Council agreed that we should continue with the process of ratification of the Maastricht treaty on the basis of the existing text, and that the door should be left open for Denmark. This was agreed by all Twelve.
§ Mr. MarlowTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will provide an English language translation of the term "acquis Communautaire" as applicable within the Maastricht treaty.
§ Mr. Garel-JonesThe term "acquis Communautaire" means the provisions of the Community treaties and the Acts of the Community institutions adopted under those treaties to date.
