Mr. Raynsford

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many(a) families with children, (b) pensioner households and (c) other households are currently receiving housing benefit in Great Britain, identifying separately those also receiving income support, and those respectively occupying (i) council tenancies, (ii) housing association tenancies and (iii) other tenancies.

The available information, for May 1991, is set out in the table.

Notes:

(a) Families with children are defined as couples (both aged less than 60), with at least one dependant child; and single persons, aged less than 60, with at least one dependant child.

(b) Pensioner householders are defined as couples where claimant or partner is aged 60 or over; and single persons aged 60 or over. These have been termed "elderly".

(c) Other households are defined as couples (both aged less than 60), without children; and single persons aged less than 60, without children.

(d) Housing Association tenancies are included in the figures for private tenants.
