HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 c490W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the range of likely liability on the expenditure of Her Majesty's Government for unemployment and social security payments for the numbers of coal miners to be made redundant under the recent proposals, on the assumption that the median period of unemployment for those concerned is six months and a year, respectively, or on other assumptions; and what formula he adopts for calculations of liability for redundancies in similar productive occupations.

Mr. Burt

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Clydebank and Milngavie (Mr. Worthington) on 21 October, at column331. For the same reasons, it is not possible to make estimates of redundancies in other occupations.
