HC Deb 19 October 1992 vol 212 c192W
Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate has been made of the revenue which would be obtained by taxing child benefit.

Mr. Dorrell

The estimated direct revenue yield in 1992–93 from making child benefit liable to tax would be about £600 million. This assumes that child benefit received by married couples would be taxed as the mother's income.
