Mr. Hain

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give figures for the percentage change in the retail prices index and the percentage change in the level of sterling compared with(a) the deutschmark and (b) the US dollar for each calendar year since 1979.

Recent annual figures for retail prices and exchange rates can be found in theEconomic Trends published by the Central Statistical Office, and figures for earlier years are published in corresponding tables in Economic Trends annual supplement.
