HC Deb 30 November 1992 vol 215 cc23-4W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many headless bodies of seals have been recovered in Scotland during the past 12 months; what investigations have been carried out; and with what results.

Sir Hector Monro

[holding answer 27 November 1992]: Between 1 January 1992 and 31 October 1992 there were 29 confirmed reports of decapitated seals. Only three of these have occurred since July. Police investigations included joint surveillance with the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There have been no prosecutions to date.
