asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have consulted the administra-tion-elect in the United States about president-elect Clinton's views on providing United States Trident missiles for the Trident submarines now being constructed in the United Kingdom, given that the existing arrangement for their provision was, as always, only personally binding on the present president.

The Trident II strategic weapon system is being supplied to the United Kingdom under the terms of the 1963 Polaris sales agreement, as revised for the purchase of Trident in 1982, which has the status of an international treaty.
