HL Deb 23 November 1992 vol 540 c54WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the number of Polaris submarines in the United Kingdom's strategic forces was reduced to three, and what was the reason for the reduction.

Viscount Cranborne

HMS "Revenge" formally left the Polaris strategic force on completion of her last commission on 13th April 1992. We announced in December last year that she would be paid off at the end of that commission. In view of progress in the introduction of Trident, we judged that continuous deterrent patrols could be maintained without giving HMS "Revenge" a further commission.
