HC Deb 09 November 1992 vol 213 c618W
Mr. David Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list, for each local enterprise company, the number of jobs each local enterprise company has created since coming into operation for(a) adult males,(b)adult females,(c)young males and(d)young females.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 6 November 1992]: Oversight of the activities of the local enterprise companies is the responsibility of Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands respectively. I have therefore asked the chairmen of these two bodies to write to the hon. Member about the information which he has requested. Such information as they are able to provide is likely to reflect the fact that it is individual employers who create jobs; and that the role of the enterprise bodies is to help foster the conditions for employment growth rather than direct job creation.
