HC Deb 09 November 1992 vol 213 c613W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received over the terms of the proposed European legislation involving the possibility of fishermen being required to wear hairnets at sea.

Mr. Sackville

I have been asked to reply.

None. There is no such requirement.

The EC directive on health conditions for the production and placing on the market of fishery products, which come into force from 1 January 1993, requires those handling fishery products in working areas on factory vessels to wear clean working clothes and headgear which encloses the hair.
