What was the annual average of the remand population in custody (including those held in police cells) for the years 1990 and 1991; what was the highest monthly total reached during 1991; and what were the monthly figures for each month in 1992 for which a figure is readily available.

The average population of untried and convicted unsentenced prisoners: (including those in police cells) was 9,900 in 1990 and 10,200 in 1991. The highest month end population in 1991 was 11,000.
