HL Deb 19 May 1992 vol 537 c27WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any disciplinary action has been taken against the police officers ordered to pay £50,000 damages to Mrs. Marie Burke (Independent, 20th and 21st March 1992); on what duties, if any, these officers are now employed, and whether the damages to Mrs. Burke have been paid out of public funds.

Earl Ferrers

The question of possible disciplinary action against individual Metropolitan Police officers is a matter for the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis and the Police Complaints Authority. Which duties certain officers perform is solely a matter for the Commissioner.

The sums awarded by Croydon County Court on 19th March in respect of damages, were paid to Mr. and Mrs. Burke from the Metropolitan Police Fund on 9th April.
