§ Lord Allen of Abbeydaleasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether it is now the policy to permit taking photographs, for publication, of convicted prisoners detained in a closed prison.
Earl FerrersOur policy remains that such photographs may not be taken without the permission of the governor and the consent of the prisoner. An internal investigation is underway into a recent incident where a group of prisoners at Wandsworth Prison were photographed, and the photograph published, without the knowledge of the prison authorities or the prisoners concerned.
