HL Deb 13 March 1992 vol 536 cc81-2WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have ever extradited a British subject to a state with which they do not have an extradition treaty, and if so, when; and whether to their knowledge the United States has ever done this.

Earl Ferrers

The power to extradite a British subject to a state with which the United Kingdom does not have extradition arrangements has been available only since 27th September 1989 when Section 15 of the Extradition Act 1989 came into force. It has not yet been used. We have no knowledge of the practice in the United States.
