HC Deb 02 June 1992 vol 208 cc521-2W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will initiate a joint campaign with British Rail to draw to the attention of school children the possible consequences to British Rail staff and passengers of vandalism to trains and track.

Mr. Freeman

British Rail and the Government attach top priority to railway safety. BR's project manager for anti-trespass and vandalism liaises with British Transport police to co-ordinate the efforts of dedicated teams engaged on school visits. Supporting publicity material includes videos and the "Roald Dahl Guide to Rail Safety". More than 4 million copies of this booklet have been sent to schools by BR. The message that children should never play near trains, stations or tracks is strongly endorsed by the Department's "Safety on the Move" campaign.
