HL Deb 13 January 1992 vol 534 c4WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What additional resources will be made available to the Serious Fraud Office in view of the number of investigations it is currently carrying out.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

My right honourable and learned friend the Attorney General announced in another place on 6th November 1991 that expenditure provision for the SFO in 1991/92 was to be increased by £1.07 million in view of the additional demands on that office arising from the BCCI case. Subject to Parliamentary approval, a further £5.4 million has been agreed for the SFO in 1992/93.

The current investigations into the Maxwell companies began only in December and the resource implications are at present under consideration.
