HL Deb 17 December 1992 vol 541 c49WA
Lord Morris

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in deciding the outcome of the review of Assisted Areas, full account was taken of the unemployment in parts of East Kent which—as predicted by the 1991 Kent Impact Study Review —will follow the completion of the Channel Tunnel and the Single European Market.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)

Her Majesty's Government are considering the many submissions received supporting Assisted Areas status for East Kent. On two recent occasions, Ministers have also visited the area to assess East Kent's situation at first hand. A full account of the needs and problems of all areas, including East Kent, is being taken in the review of the Assisted Areas map.
