To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are currently unemployed in the United Kingdom.

In September 1991 seasonally adjusted unemployment in the United Kingdom was 2,460,600.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many men and how many women were unemployed at the last count in(a) the parliamentary constituency of Deptford and (b) the London borough of Lewisham.

On 12 September 1991, the latest unemployment count date, there were 5,292 male and 1,987 female unemployed claimants in the parliamentary constituency of Deptford, and 12,581 male and 4,678 female unemployed claimants in the London borough of Lewisham. The figures are on the unadjusted basis.
