HC Deb 22 October 1991 vol 196 cc614-5W
16. Mr. Butterfill

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he has received any representations from the Transport and General Workers Union about training.

Mr. Howard

No.

Ms. Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many training places are being supplied through training and enterprise councils in (a) the parliamentary constituency of Deptford, (b) the London borough of Lewisham and (c) London; and how many training places were proposed by providers bidding for contracts from training and enterprise councils in (a) the parliamentary constituency of Deptford, (b) the London borough of Lewisham and (c) London, respectively.

Mr. Jackson

The Department does not hold information on training places by parliamentary constituency or by borough. The division of total places, agreed by the Department for a TEC area, between boroughs, is a matter for each individual TEC. The latest figures available show the number of people currently in training on youth training and employment training in the South Thames TEC area to be 4,660 and, in London as a whole, to be 38,000. The detail of proposals made by providers bidding for contracts is a matter for the TEC and not for the Department.

25. Mr. Watson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many training places were provided in each of the last three years; and how many he plans to provide in the current year.

Mr. Jackson

This information is not available. Contracts with training and enterprise councils in England and Wales and local enterprise companies in Scotland, whose responsibility it is to plan and manage training locally, are agreed on the basis of training weeks and outputs delivered rather than specific number of training places.
