HC Deb 21 November 1991 vol 199 c267W
Mr. Steinberg

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement about the animal rights national index; how many names are contained in this index; and in what year it was created.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

The animal rights national index—ARNI—was created in 1986 and it holds about 21,000 names. The data held by ARNI are used to assist the police in their investigations into acts of animal extremism and also to provide advice and guidance to those who may be at risk from such acts.
