To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current waiting time for cases to reach a hearing by industrial tribunals within(a) the Barnsley, East constituency and (b) South Yorkshire; and what were the comparable waiting times in each of the last five years.

I reget that the information is not in the form requested. The following table shows the percentage of cases coming to first hearing at the industrial tribunals in the Leeds region, which includes Barnsley and the South Yorkshire area, within six, eight, 10, 12, 20 and 26 weeks respectively of receipt of the application. The figures for the period 1 April to 6 November 1991 are provisional. The figures for the period 1 April 1986 to 31 March 1987 are for the Sheffield regional office which served the South Yorkshire area until its amalgamation with Leeds in 1987.
