HC Deb 08 November 1991 vol 198 cc291-2W
Mr. Patchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list(a) the number of training places available to the young unemployed and (b) the range of opportunities available to the young unemployed in the Barnsley, East constituency.

Mr. Jackson

The information is not available in the form requested.

In 1991–92 Barnsley and Doncaster training and enterprise council (TEC) has contracted with local training providers on a training week basis. In the Barnsley local authority district the number of training weeks available will allow for an average in training level of 2,550 places for the remainder of this year.

The TEC has confirmed that it is confident of meeting the Government's guarantee to young people and in doing so is providing a wide range of training opportunities which they believe will meet known local needs.

The Government have guaranteed that all young people who are under 18 and not in full-time education or a job and are seeking training are offered and, if necessary, re-offered a suitable youth training (YT) place. The Government remain committed to ensuring that the YT guarantee is met.

In the Barnsley, East constituency the employment service offers opportunities to take a job, join a jobclub, or attend jobsearch seminar, restart course, job review workshop, or a job preparation course. There are varying eligibility criteria for these opportunities.
