To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list, for each coal mine in England and Wales, and for each year since 1985, the number of recorded accidents which have taken place in the course of the employment of coal miners.

The available information on average gross weekly earnings is published in the "New Earnings Survey" reports for the years concerned (in tables 10,11,18 and 21 for 1970, in tables 29, 32, 49 and 52 for 1973, and in tables 54, 57, 74 and 77 for 1974, 1979, 1983 and 1991), apart from figures for employees in non-manufacturing for 1991 which are given in the following table. Estimates of decile, quartile and median earnings for those in non-manufacturing are not available for 1991.

Information on the retail prices index (all items) to convert 1979 figures to 1991 prices is published in table 6.4 of the latest "Employment Gazette" for April 1991, and in table 26 of the annual supplement to "Economic Trends" for April of earlier years.
