HL Deb 08 May 1991 vol 528 c49WA
Baroness Ewart-Biggs

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their response to the Advice Services Alliance's proposals of 27th February in relation to the funding of independent advice and law centres?

Baroness Blatch

It is for each individual local authority to decide on the level of its funding to the voluntary sector.

The estimated increase in the amount of external support to local authorities from central Government for this year is 32.6 per cent. including the grant to be paid under Section 4(4)(a) of the Community Charges (General Reduction) Act. Total external support to local authorities in England for 1991–92 is now estimated to be £30.9 billion.
